All I want is a fruit leaf or two...

Yesterday, I got it into my head that I wanted to make this thai food dish called "Evil Prince of the Wild Jungle" or "...in the wild jungle." In any case, it's this very yummy dish that I had at this wonderful thai place conveniently located across the street from my mom's house. It has this coconutty sauces with peanut tasting yummy stuff and spices and all these wonderful wonderful things and it just sounded really good so I figure I'd try and hunt a recipe down on the internet.

Well, I found the recipe (found several actually) and have been hunting down the ingrediants since then. I have all the ingrediants save for 2... Two kaffir lime leaves. That's all I need to make my yummy concoction. I have been to the Farmer's Market, all the oriental markets, the gourmet food store, Super Target, Meijers, Walmart. You name a place that sells food and I've been there. I even went to an Indian Supermarket (which I didn't know existed until I found this neat site within the Notre Dame website that has places for foreign students to get food supplies to make their own culinary marvels... I am currently imagining the scent of curry... yum...)!!

While I have seen a lot of things that I definitely want to try, my heart is set on "The Evil Prince of/in the Wild Jungle!" My mouth waters at the taste... It just sounds so... DELICIOUS!! (And trust me, it is!) But, I'm quite disappointed in not being able to find these kaffir leaves. So, I have decided that instead, I will use my wok and make a very tasty stir fry. I like stir fry, I have veggies galore, so why not? This is the part where I whine some more about wanting the prince...

If anyone knows where one could possibly find a kaffir lime leaf in Northern Indiana, do tell. Or perhaps someone could let me know a suitable substitute? Or maybe someone could just take me out to lunch to the thai food place... that would be very nice of you.

Completely off topic: I have decided to make a statement. I like Colin Firth. I think he's dreamy.

That is all. You may now go about your day.

Here is a link to an article about Kaffir Limes. I think you could probably use lime zest in place of the leaves. It's the citrus oil that you want, and the oils are strongest in the leaves, next strongest in the lime peel. Grate a little, taste as you go.

And don't use "Kaffir" without "lime" after it - "kaffir" is the South African equivalent of "nigger." Oops!
