Copycat! Saying Adieu to 2007

Snagged these questions from my sis-in-law Carrie's blog... It was basically a "Why the hell not?" kind of thing.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you hadn't done before?
Drive stick shift pregnant. That was definitely interesting. OH, I also had my labor with Jackson induced.

2. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Well, I did. And I also saw quite a few goats give birth, but the goats are necessarily close.

3. Did anyone close to you die?
Casey's mom's uncle Stan died. I didn't really know him but from what I hear he was quite admirable.

4. Did you travel? Where did you go? Best holiday memory?
Travel... not much was done. The furthest we went was to visit my dad in Kentucky. We did that, so yeah. Best holiday memory would have to be Memorial Day Weekend when we visited my dad. It was warm enough that we got to go swimming in the lake (which was a nice 75 degrees).

5. Best thing you bought?
Our new car, a Black Toyota Matrix XRS.

6. Where did most of your money go?
Food, bills and baby stuff.

7. What do you wish you had done more of?
Excersize and I guess help Lily more with her school work.

8. What do you wish you had done less of?
Watch TV. I've become an addict.

9. What kept you sane?
My wonderful hubby. Seriously! I spent a good portion of 2007 pregnant and extremely hormonal. I got really upset because I couldn't find my keys one time and ended up getting Lily to school late. I felt horrible!

10. What drove you mad?
Hormones, hormones and more hormones.

11. What made you celebrate?
The birth of Jackson on September 21.

12. What made you sad?
Hormones, hormones and more hormones.

13. How was your birthday this year?
Well, I was very pregnant and it was pretty low key. I did get Dr. Who Series One, though and that totally rocked all to hell and back.

14. What political issue stirred you the most this year?
Lots of stuff. Mainly Bush being an idiot.

15. Were you in love in 2007?
I was totally in love with Casey (my hubby) as I always am and I was totally in love with Jackson and of course Lily.

16. What would you like to have in 2008 that you didn't have this year?
Doctor Who Series 2 & 3? I don't know. I'm pretty happy.

17. What date from 2007 will be etched in your memory and why?
December 25, 2007. It was the first Christmas my dad and I spent together in 8 years.

18. What song will remind you of 2007?
LOL! Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden (Carrie you can giggle now!)...
Actually, I think the song Stolen Car by Sting. Certain people know why...

19. Compared to this time last year are you happier?
I'd like to think I get happier and happier every year.

20. Biggest achievement this year?
Natural Child Birth.

21. Biggest disappointment this year?
Having to leave school due to a stupid bleach allergy. It's not fun having an asthma attack every time you're around bleach.

22. What is the one thing that would have made you more satisfied?
Finishing school.

23. Best new person you met this year?
Don't know.... How about reconnecting with old friends?

24. A valuable life lesson you learned this year?
When people tell you to get your wisdom teeth pulled at the age of 18 you should do it.

25. How was your health in 2007?
Relatively good with the exception of a major sinus infection and asthma flare up last February (which is how I learned that bleach was not making me a happy Jess).

26. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't really make any new years resolutions. This year, however, I'd like to keep up my weight loss (I'm doing really good with that), eat healthier and take better care of the house (it implodes on a weekly basis... I think daily maintenance is the answer)

27. What countries did you visit?
I only traveled in the US, so yeah... we were dull.

28. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

29. Did you suffer hardship in 2007?
We were a little strapped for cash, but we worked it out.

30. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My hubby, Casey. He managed to wrangle me in when I was being psychotic pregnant lady and he got me through natural childbirth. I have never felt closer to him and I have never loved him more.

31. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
politicians and a certain friend that absolutely will not listen to good advice and comes up with every excuse in the book to justify herself.

32. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Jackson's birth. .

33. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? thinner
iii. richer or poorer? 'bout the same

34. How will you spend the New Years?
Probably playing rock band or watching movies. Some people might come over.

35. How many one-night stands?
This question totally does not apply to me as I am happily married going on 4 years in February.

36. What was your favorite TV program?
Dr. Who, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, House... I've been watching WAY too much TV.

37. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I really don't like the word hate and I don't like to use it. It is too strong a word for my tastes. I dislike certain actions that people have taken in the name of freedom and democracy but that has been going on for several years.

38. What was the best book you read?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Fabulous fabulous read.

39. What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
"Passengers" by U2, Brian Eno and several others. I'd been missing the disc for some time and finally found it again. It is such a good CD!

40. What did you want and get?
A new, more family friendly car.... my Toyota Matrix XRS.

41. What did you want and not get?
A winning lottery ticket?

42. What was your favorite film that you watched this year?
Hmmmm... I don't know...

43. What one experience do you never want to repeat from this year?
Taking cyrtek to induce labor. It did nothing but annoy the crap out of me.

44. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Comfy, loose clothes.

45. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom.

46. Who did you miss?
I miss Matt and Ben. I didn't see them at all this year. Sad Jess.

When God closes one door, he opens a window... and then you have to squeeze through it all big and pregnant.

48. Was 2007 a good year for you?

49. Where were you when 2007 began?
Asleep in my bed.

50. Who were you with?
I actually think Lily was with me. Casey was probably playing video games and I was asleep in bed all cuddled up with her.

51. How many concerts did you see in 2007?
Sheesh! I can't remember the last time I went to a concert.

52. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2007?
Nope, couldn't do to the aforementioned pregnancy.

53. Did you do a lot of drugs in 2007?
Only prescribed drugs like phenegrin, tylenol 3, low dose pitocin (to induce labor)

54. If you could go back in time to any moment of 2007 and change something, what would it be?
Not really.

55. What are you most looking forward to in 2008?
Jack turning into a toddler, my friend Mickie having her second child.

Stuff I've done in 2007:

1) Found out I was pregnant and eventually gave birth au natural.

2) Organized, planned and helped host a massive charity event (The House Elf Clothing Drive) in which both radio and television interviews were conducted (albeit nervous interviews!).

3) Went up three pant sizes (during pregnancy) and then managed to go down to a size 8 pant (which is two sizes smaller than I was pre-pregnancy) this morning.

4) Managed to lose 15 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight to now. (There has been a total weight loss of 35 pounds, but most of that was pregnancy weight.) All while eatting relatively well and having the occasional cheese fries.

5) Purchased a new car.

6) Weened myself off caffeine for nearly 10 months, got back on the "sauce" (in this case sauce = caffeine), and have successfully weened myself down to one can of coke per day.

7) Took apart the dishwasher and fixed it.

8) Helped plan a 50th Anniversary party for my aunt in uncle. I printed the invites, helped finalize the menu, etc. Still sore about the lack of enthusiastic thank you from my mom...

9) Embraced my inner asshole and chased someone down the street for throwing a McDonald's bag in our yard.

10) Crossed the St. Joe river in a canoe just to learn about the area's history.

11) Watched several seasons of Dr. Who and thuroughly enjoyed them all.

12) Became a Mac Convert.

13) Read the new and last Harry Potter in 2 days.

14) Watched a LOT of movies.

15) Gave Casey a crash course in driving stick. He figured most of it out himself.

16) Ate a lot of turkey and still managed to have a ton left over.

17) Was rather sleep deprived for most of the year.

18) Had a brilliant Christmas and managed to get all of my shopping done in less than 5 hours! Wrapping... now that's another story entirely.

Yep, I feel quite accomplished and the year isn't over until midnight. Wonder what else I can do?

OOH! I almost forgot!! I also helped remove and replace a dryer. We took one out and brought the other in! I channeled my "inner Chuck Norris" to accomplish it, but I did it and I impressed my hubby while I was at it. Cool, huh?

Christmas Recap

Well, we're on the eve of New Year's Eve and it's been a busy few days. Yesterday was the first day that I just got to sit for a minute and what did I do? I ended up taking our tree down, rearranging some furniture and doing some laundry. I find myself asking "This is supposed to be a vacation, right?"

Christmas was excellent! We went to Casey's parents the day before Christmas Eve and had dinner with them, my sis-in-law, her hubby, their kids and Aunt Barb (who is one of the most amusing people I have ever met and I love her to death!). Dint thaner was tasty! Tasty! Tasty! After that, we all hung out being slugs and chatted while watching The Amazing Race. Monday (Christmas Eve) Casey, the kids and I went to my mom's house for dinner with her and the Maddox clan (my mom's boyfriend and his family... kids, grandkid and his sister). Another tasty meal had and then we headed home where my Dad was waiting for us.

This was the first Christmas that I've spent with my dad in about 8 years. We've seen him around Christmas before, but we haven't actually spent Christmas together since Lily was 6 months old. It was nice to have him here even though I'm sure we drove him absolutely bonkers.

The present run down mainly consists of several DVDs that I wanted including the first three seasons of Nip/Tuck (which I still haven't gotten to watch... oh, I am so looking forward to the sex and debauchery that is Nip/Tuck! Whoo hoo!), Pirates of the Caribbean 3, the latest Harry Potter movie (Order of the Phoenix) and my big gift from Casey??? A brand spankin' new 7.1 surround sound system!! OHMYGODIT'SSOBEAUTIFUL!!! I'm totally enjoying it! Last night we watched Blade Runner the final cut (another one of my presents) with the surround sound and I actually thought it was raining outside! It's teh awesome!

Lily got everything she wanted and then some, but her big present this year was the game Rock Band, which we played from about 10AM Christmas morning until 5PM that evening. We've been playing it every evening since. Carrie and Keven got addicted to it as well since we took it over to the parental units' house the day after Christmas. Fun fun fun!

Jack got several baby toys and some clothes. I got Casey a couple of video games, a new pair of Dan Post cowboy boots (I actually got the ones he wanted, too!) and I also got him a gift certificate for an hour long massage which he has decided to save until the spring when he will really need the massage. He says he wants to wait, but he poured concrete just the other day, so I don't know... He may schedule it sooner rather than later.

Life has been busy. We're contemplating having a New Year's party. I'm thinking something totally casual where we watch movies and play games until about 5 minutes until the ball drops. I honestly can't remember the last time I was awake until midnight on New Years, though. Having friends over would definitely be fun, though. Like a giant slumber party, yeah?

That's what we've been up to. I'm now going to try and sneak upstairs for a nap and some Nip/Tuck. Ah, the joys of MacBook!

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Thursday Thirteen: Things I still have to do before Christmas.

I managed to get my portion of the Christmas shopping done yesterday and now comes the fun part... everything else I have to do! So, here we go:

1) Wrap presents. I will probably have to wrap everyone's but my own.

2) Stay home today and wait for those few remaining packages that I've been told are coming.

3) Bake Christmas Cookies. Butter jets, more chocolate crinkles, Mexican wedding cakes, sugar cookies, etc.

4) Go to my mom's house and do laundry. With the dryer dead, I can't do laundry here and Casey is in need of pants. So, after those packages come, off I go!

5) Mail my Christmas Cards. Yes, I know, I'm horrible. They're sitting on my dining room table, addressed but not stamped. Off to the post office with me! (Oh, that will be a joy!)

6) Clean.

7) Clean.

8) Clean.

9) Take the annual trip to Winding Brook to see Christmas lights.

10) Finalize plans with family. I still don't know who's coming when and when we need to go wear. For some reason that drives me nuts. I blame it on the fact that I like schedules and if I don't have things scheduled, my day can get away from me (as it often does).

11) Get Jack to giggle on camera and email it out. You may think this is not important, but it is! He keeps giggling for me, but whenever I try and get him to do this for his dad or anyone else he doesn't. He's a stinker.

12) Dye my hair. Geez, it's such an atrocious colour at the moment!

13) RELAX!!! This is of course, after I finish the stuff on my list. ;-) Anyone want to help??

I just read that the Merriam-Webster dictionary added w00t to their dictionary! How cool is that? W00T!! (I would just like to say that I've been saying it for years.)

Good deed of the day.

I have finally brought my dad into the 21st century! I talked him through ordering a cell phone over the internet and he now has his very own cell phone coming in the mail. The world is now a better place that I can get a hold of my dad whenever I want to.
It's funny if you think about it... 10 years ago we didn't really have cell phones. They weren't nearly as prevalent as they are today and if you did have one, you paid out the ass for service. Now, everywhere you look people have cell phones. While with the introduction of blue tooth technology it is no longer necessary for us to have one glued to our ears, one hand holding phone, one hand on the steering wheel, we can now walk around and simply push a button attached to a small headset that fits conveniently over your ear, say the name of the person you're calling and wha-la! You're connected! Now people don't so much stare at you talking on the phone, but they stare at you because it looks like you're talking to yourself.

I wonder when someone is going to figure out how to do like a cochlear implant so all we have to do is like touch our ear to answer the phone. Oh, and those cars that have blue tooth already in 'em? FREAKIN' COOL!!

My Husband ROCKS!

I love my husband! He's so handy! And he's such a manly man! Yesterday, I thought our dryer died. In the middle of drying our comforter, the drum stopped turning. Insert a somewhat grumpy Jess here. While we have another dryer, it is currently out in the garage, buried under a mountain of tools. That, and it's snowy and yucky outside, the yard is quite slick and Casey would also need his dad (or some other manly man of which I know very few) to help him move it from the garage to the house cuz everyone knows that I'm an absolute wuss with anything heavy.

So, my hubby comes home today and starts taking the dryer apart. I didn't even know he was home, I just heard some loud banging noises in the laundry room and thought that either the dogs or Lily was up to something. So, out I go. Surprise surprise! It's hubby! And he's fixing the dryer!

The thing still squeaks, but it works and it's a temporary fix until we can bring in the other dryer. I can at least get some more clothes washed. In the meantime, my hubby is Mr. Fix-it! And it's oh so sexy!!

In other news, Jack also things his dad is the greatest. This evening, I went to the video store (impending snow storm and all around crap weather coming this weekend) and to Meijers. When I came back Jack, Casey and Lily were sitting on the couch, Jack in Casey's arms and he was just staring at his dad. Casey handed Jack over to me and instantly he was in a bad mood. So, we walked into the computer room and instantly he was talking to his Dad. He wanted Casey. He wanted Daddy time. Talk about making Mommy feel like poo! Ah, but I take comfort knowing that most days it is Mommy that he wants. Woot to the mommy!

All that being said, it is waaaaaaaaaaayyyy past my bedtime.
