Seriously, WTF?!

I woke up this morning and got the kids (! That still weirds me out a little bit... in a good way, that is) up and around and headed downstairs with Jackson for the morning bottle. I normally watch the news in the morning before Lily comes down, so that's exactly what I was doing. On the bottom of the screen there were half a dozen school cancellations. I was like "Oh, must be cold outside!" The wind was blowing rather fiercely last night when I went to bed so I just assumed that it had gotten colder and the front had finally pushed through.

And then, I took the trash out. It was FORTY-FIVE DEGREES outside!! The ground was muddy and nasty (I should know, I slipped and fell in it) and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why they canceled certain schools. My guess: flooding.

The weather report for tonight says that we've got a Winter Storm Warning, so the next 24 hours could be totally interesting. At least I'm not going to freeze my butt off scraping ice off the car this morning! Whoo hoo!

The Banana Debacle

Today, Jackson tried bananas. Not just the rice cereal with banana in it, but straight up pureed banana. And it was not good. I should have known that it was going to be a hard sell from the face he made, but when he started whining and then crying? Yeah, Jackson does NOT like bananas and he was so adament about not having any more that not only did he get bananas all over himself, but he got them all over me. It was like a banana expulsion mixed with spit and to top it off the best baby crying face ever! I didn't know if to laugh or hug him or what! I opted for both and took him out of the high chair and gave him a bottle.

Since then, whenever he wants to be held (which has been all the time today) he has given me the MOST pathetic look ever.

Yep, the boy has me wrapped around his finger and he's only 4 months old. I definitely have to get more tough... just not quite yet.

Jack Eats Cereal!

Return of the Mommy-blogger!

Jackson had his four month check up today.  The check up went very well, the doctor calling him a handsome little bruiser who is growing quite a bit!  We had three shots and another oral vaccine and while he cried during the shots, as soon as I picked him up he stopped crying and was smiling.  I think it was more of a "You stuck me with a needle! What the hell?" kind of cry than an "Ow! That hurts!" cry.   Jackson fell asleep before we got to the car and has woken up only twice for about fifteen minutes.  He's a bit on the grumpy side but not horribly bad.

The verdict?  Jackson is in the 95th percentile as far as height and weight.  He is 17 lbs. 10 oz. and 26 inches long.  According to my friend Michelle, that's about what an 11 month old should weigh.  I've been trying to find data to back that up, but I haven't been able to find anything yet.  We'll see, though.  Between Lily and Jack and trying to clean up I haven't had much time to do anything but cuddle a grumpy boy and start a load of laundry.

Lily also has a friend over today (no school today! whoo hoo!).  It just got very quiet, so I'm going to go check on them and Jackson is also waking up so I'm off to the land in which I am Queen.

Pass the hot cocoa, please!

This weekend my dad came up for a visit and has had the chance to "enjoy" what we like to call a typical Northern Indiana winter day.  Actually, now that I think about it, we all got to enjoy it because we haven't had anything this cold since I think two years ago at Thanksgiving time.

Temperatures have been in the single digits with minus double digit windchill.  Luckily, I prepared ahead of time with a trip to the video store, renting a handful of movies (Shoot 'Em Up, Idiocracy, Reality Bites, Roly Poly Oly for Lily, and A Dirty Shame) to keep us occupied.  We ended up watching Shoot 'Em Up (which was hilarious for it's complete lack of realism and actually a decent action movie), Lily watched her movie and then keeping with the theme of ridiculous action movies with absolutely no basis in reality whatsoever, we also watched Crank.

I heart Jason Statham.  He's so yummy.

Dad and I managed to go to Sam's Club on Saturday afternoon to get Jack some formula and then Dad, craving Little Caesar's Pizza, braved the cold once again Saturday evening and got us pizza.  All hail Daddy and his ability to brave the cold!  I wanted to get out of the house but there was no way in hell I was going out in the cold.

So, we have stayed in all weekend.  Casey is playing Mass Effect, Lily is now in bed, Jack's in his swing (and I'm hoping he falls asleep soon!) and me... well, doing that whole blog thing as usual. Tomorrow Jack has his 4 month check up.  I'm curious as to how much he weighs.  I'm also expecting to get the go ahead for baby food (rice cereal, pureed fruits, etc) tomorrow.  He is also getting 4 shots so he'll probably be too cranky to try anything tomorrow.  I'm hoping to video tape the first feeding to see how messy it is.  Maybe I'll youtube it!

Other than being slugs, not much is going on.  I've been doing a ballet conditioning workout DVD this past week and I'm thuroughly loving it.  It makes me want to take a real class.  Maybe in the near future but not until the spring at the very least.

I'm off... I'll update tomorrow with all the latest Jack information.

A Good Day for Snow

Last night I kept waking up because Jackson was making these horrible stuffy nose noises.  It was like the poor little man couldn't breathe!  He kept snorting and sniffing.  I finally got him to sleep after rocking him for half an hour but the minute I laid him back in his bassinet the horrible cycle would start again.   It made for a very restless sleep and when I finally did manage to fall asleep for more than half an hour the morning alarms went off.  Jack, finally comfy, Casey and I cuddled until 7.  That was by far the best part of the night.

So, today Jack and I have been staying in doors, I've been sucking the boogers out of his poor, stuffied little nose and watching snow accumulate outside the windows.   Add an entire vat of chicken goop with rice (aka chicken a la king) and it's a pretty good day to stay inside.

How is your Monday going?

Can't get much worse...

This has been an absolutely shitty weekend for almost everyone I know.  I figure at this point it can't get much worse.  I did, however, learn that I am excellent at small talk.

I may go into more detail tomorrow or Monday but right now I'm just emotionally and physically drained and I really don't want to talk about it.  Instead, I'm going to watch a bad movie and hopefully fall asleep in the process.

Should we talk about the weather?

It's January 8 and it should be cold.  Instead, it's 54 degrees and after a morning of rain, the sun is now peaking through the clouds in a few spots.   Yesterday it got up to 66 degrees.  Today it's 10 degrees cooler and it's supposed to drop to around 30 and it's supposed to snow.  I'm not looking forward to scraping ice off my car tomorrow, but then again when does anyone look forward to scraping ice of their car.

Jack's new way of getting attention: whining.  He does an absolutely adorable whine to get you to look at him and then when you look at him and say "Hi Jack!" he gives you a big cheesy smile and sticks his tongue out at you.  He is definitely getting the tongue thing down.

I'm suffering from "I want to cut my hair" syndrome.  I'm desperately fighting the urge to cut my hair.  I'm trying to grow it out and it's in an annoying phase.  I've been pushing it back with headbands lately, but the headbands give me headaches.  I can't find a happy medium.  I will just have to suffer.

I think that Hillary Clinton is slick.  The show of emotions yesterday... damn, that girl is good.  People have been saying she's cold?  Show a little emotion and set 'em straight.  The girl isn't afraid to do what it takes.  Unfortunately, that kinda frightens me.  I have to admit, though... If the Clintons do get back into the White House, I'm thinking it'll be entertaining to say the least.  What will Bill do now that he doesn't have the responsibility of running the country on his shoulders? Wait a sec... We already know the answer to that.  At least he already knows where the closest McDonald's is? Hee hee. (Note: I actually like the Clintons.  They're charismatic.)

I hope the Writers Guild Strike comes to a close soon or else television is going to suffer.  It's already suffering, but yeah.  I do, however, believe that Casey and I could write a kick ass episode of Heroes.

Jack snores.  It's cute.

I just finished Disc 4 of Nip/Tuck Season 3.  I have to say, I wanted more Carver action.  I'm still getting my guilty pleasure, but still... Season 3 was supposed to be all Carver! Or rather, it should have been.  I'm totally going to have to get Season 4 now.  I'll be posting a review of Season 1-3 soon.  I think I'll break it down by season, too.  I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

I think that's it for now.

(HI...hi, hi)
Should we talk about the government?
(Hi...hi, hi hi)"

Over the weekend Jackson discovered his tongue. It happened on Saturday morning, before I went over to my mom's house to meet with my cousins (who drove in from Chicago). He just started sticking his tongue out and then working his tongue in and out of his mouth like a cute little lizard. Naturally, that means that since Saturday Casey, Lily and I have taken turns sticking our own tongues out at Jack and then saying "Look! Look! He's copying me!"

I guess in a way he is copying us, but I think it's more of a "Look what I can do!" kind of copying. Self motivated copying? Does that make sense? My brain is all fuzzy at the moment from inhaling lots of lemon-y floor cleaner smells so I don't know if anything really makes sense at the moment.

I can't wait until he can blow raspberries, though! I'm sure I'll get tired of it after about 10 minutes, but will laugh hysterically nonetheless.

Not much else going on. Our computer monitor died. We have decided to hold off replacing it (we are currently borrowing the Stone parents extra monitor, thank you very much Stone parents!!) until we can afford to buy an IMac.

Is anyone else wondering why the hell it is 60 degrees outside in Northern Indiana in the middle of winter?? I'm just going to grin and bear it, yep... that's what I'm going to do.

Can I get a redo?

I went to bed at 10PM last night, all pissed off. I woke up this morning pissed off. It snowed about a foot last night, Casey's alarm has been going off since about 9:30 this morning and he's still in bed, I've been cleaning my ass off this morning and especially after certain events last night he expects me to be NICE to him and crawl back in bed with him at NOON?!

I want a redo. This year is totally sucking so far.
