Spring = Haircuts

Lily got her annual spring haircut yesterday, today Casey gets one.   I'm going to try and snark one in as well seeing as how I'm going to be out and about.  Lily's is a very mod razor cut that can be sleaked down or flip-pied up as mood strikes. She seems to like it.  Casey's getting his standard shave the head until he has nothing but fuzz look and I am starting to look like a little boy, so it's time to chop mine up too.  I'm thinking I'm in serious need of a color overhaul, too.  Back to brown with me, with maybe some highlights?  I can't decide.
I took Lily to school and it was a very humid 55 degrees outside!  Here I was, bundled up in my wool coat and scarf, Lily and I walk out the door, Jack bundled in his carseat and the first thing the girl says is "Mom! It's warm out here!"
Today's weather is supposed to be warm with rain showers and thunderstorms on the occasion, so I think I'm going to take advantage of that and open the windows for a few hours and start airing out the house.  If it keeps up this week I may actually finish painting the trim.  Although, this week I may get absolutely nothing done because Sci Fi channel is running the first three seasons of Battlestar Galactica.  All. In a row.  From 8AM to 5PM, nonstop BSG.  That's awesome.  The series is most excellent.  I've made it through Season One (I started watching it last week on my own.) and the first two episodes of season 2.  I'm hooked, what can I say.
I'm going to go be productive now.  At least as much as I can be for a little while.

The Six Month Old Behemouth

Jackson is officially 6 months old (as of Friday, the 21st) and the boy is HUGE!!!  He has learned how to bang stuff, throw stuff, babbles constantly and this week we're learning how to turn on and off lights (we can't pass a light switch now without him wanting to turn it on and off constantly).   Oh, and he loves to be thrown into the air (which doesn't happen too often because he's completely heavy).  He's definitely a boy!

His check up was on Monday and the official stats are 20 pounds 4 ounces and 27 inches long.  This puts him in the 95th percentile for weight and 85th percentile for height.

It's funny seeing how different he is from Lily as a baby.  Lily, much like she is now, was a very quiet, reserved baby.  Jackson... Well, he's a boy and he's ALWAYS moving.   He's also always babbling and it's almost like he wants to grow up NOW.  He does this hilarious thing when I've got him on my lap where he just jumps.  He wiggles up and down like he's trying to get away but yet he's not quite ready to leave Mommy.

I think that sister Lily is definitely the favorite person, though.  He just laughs and smiles and his entire face lights up even more when he sees her.   He'll sit there and just "talk" to her and she'll talk back.  She's been reading to him in the afternoons after school which is not only a good thing for her, but it's also good for Jack.   One of these days, I swear he's going to talk.  And I'm pretty sure that his first word will either be "Dude!"  or "Lily."  My bet's on Lily.

So yeah, the family is good. Happy family. Whoo hoo.  Now, if we'd all stay healthy for a while maybe we can actually get out of this house.

Gratuitous Baby Cuteness

This afternoon while I was folding laundry and Lily was "keeping an eye" on her brother (he was sleeping in his crib), I heard the cutest thing. Lily started singing "Winnie the Pooh" to Jackson. It made me go "awwwww...." and grin in a stupid, Mommy kind of way. It was one of those moments that I wished I had a tape recorder.

Oh I am SOOOOO gonna see this!!!

Welcome back warm fuzzy feelings from my youth!! I am a child of the 80's! I remember when cartoons used to not completely suck on Saturday mornings and the glory days of magical movies like Labarynth, Dark Crystal, Neverending Story and most importantly The Goonies! Lost Boys I didn't see until the late 80s. I dreamed of flying on Falcor's back! I had a pretend pet just like Fizgig! One Eyed Willie's treasure remained lost and hidden... in the woods behind our house! And the Frogg brothers.... I was going to marry Edgar Frog (or possibly Bon Jovi, which would have completely upset my cousin who was a total Bon Jovi fan) and we were going to have a vampire killing dynasty!

Welcome back, Lost Boys! I have missed you! I think the only thing that could make this even better is if they announced the production of Goonies 2, which apparently the entire cast would love to do but Warner Bros. doesn't want to do it. Buttheads. Oh, by the way, so far Goonies is the only movie from my youth that has been able to keep it's magic.

Spring Cleaning

This week I have dedicated to spring cleaning and beef stroganoff.  The cleaning part is off to a good start, but the beef stroganoff has yet to be made.  I think I'll round out the week with that.

I'm actually quite proud of myself.  I cleaned the laundry room (including a much needed washing of the walls), managed to fold the fitted sheets so they didn't look too horrible (a task in itself) and I have maybe two loads of laundry left. Whoo hoo!  Upstairs there isn't enough for a full load, so I'm waiting until Casey gets home on that one.   I also deep cleaned the kitchen, walls in kitchen, baseboards... I still have to get the kitchen window which is on my list today.  The dining room windows and floors are done, the piano is dusted and as soon as the floor is dry (hence why I am in the office typing away... wet floors are a pain) I'm going to get out the step ladder and clean the fan in there.  It's collected a fall and winters' worth of dust. Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!

After that, I move furniture back to that room and get started on the living room if time allows. I have a parent teacher conference at 2:00 and it's already 1:00, so I may have to post pone the living room for tomorrow or Friday (I have shopping duties with Mickie tomorrow and I'm also dying her hair before the wedding we're going to on Saturday).

I've decided that I'd like to take a dance class.  There is a place about ten minutes away that is offering a beginning adult hip hop class.  Lately, I've been doing a lot of dancing at home while cleaning and procrastinating cleaning and I have always enjoyed dance class (I took ballet from ages 4 until 10, tap from 8 years until 10 years, and I also took Jazz for a year... Spirit fingers y'all!) and I figure it would be a) fun and fitness oriented and b) a way to get out of the house at least once a week.  I'm trying to talk Mickie into coming with me since we've been doing practically everything together lately.  We're both suffering from kids and cabin fever.

So yeah, that's the plan.  I'm going to go check on my floors and then if they're good I'm going to move furniture back and take a load of laundry upstairs to fold.

Stuck in my head...

I've been on a total Madonna kick lately.  I don't know if that's because of her recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or because her new CD is coming out relatively soon.  Either way, I made myself a CD of tunes all Madonna from various bits of her career.   I'm not the only one who is loving it, either.  Lily LOVE LOVE LOVES it!  She asked me to make her a copy for her to listen to in her room and I happily complied.    This song I have heard multiple multiple times from Lily's room.  Hey Mickey, I think she likes it!

So... yeah, the song that's gotten stuck in my head...  Makes me want to go find some high wasted pants (which are coming back into style) and a pork-pie hat.

Boring

Not much going on.  Lily is feeling better, I'm contemplating cleaning out my car (depends on outside temp... the sun is shining but if it's cold a giant screw that will be uttered from my mouth).  I'm thinking Lily and I need some girlie time together.  Haven't gotten much as of late other than cuddle time last night and even then, Jackson was interrupting that.

Casey got up this morning and stated: "That is the LAST time I move TWO children from our bed."  I came up with a joke, but way too late.  My head is telling me that I should have said something to the effect of "Well, then, we'll just have to have three in bed with us."  Hee hee. I'm evil and such.  I think he would have panicked worse than the time about 3 years ago when he jumped on me and I yelled (without missing a step) "Don't! You'll squish the baby!"  Yep, I'm terribly evil.

In any case, I'm thinking of taking Lily to see The Spiderwick Cronicles.  She is intrigued by it.  Then again, she's going through a fairy fascination phase.  I definitely think the Fairy Castle at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago will be an absolute delight to her in the spring.

My dad is currently in Florida with my uncle.  Last year when they were in Florida they managed to sink one of those fan boats in the Everglades.  So far the only disaster that they've dealt with are tornadoes near Gainesville (apparently the tornadoes did an absurd amount of damage and killed a few people) and he and my uncle have been calling the retirees around where they're staying a "bunch of old farts."  I forsee an uprising of said retirees.

Hmmmm.... makes me wonder, if the fast zombies from 28 Days Later were to infect old people that are incredibly slow, would the old people then move really really fast?  I'll have to call Jedlipuff and debate this with him.  And this is a topic that definitely needs further debate.

So yeah, off to mess with my hair, eat some cheerios and clean out my car.  I see a chocolate malt in my near future as well.  Tasty.

Toodles all!

Return of the Rage

Lily is sick again.  Same symptoms as last time.  Me being paranoid, I took her to see her pediatrician this weekend.  She said that it was just a bug and there was nothing much we could do other than give her lots of liquids and have her rest.  Lily got a couple of days off from school (today and tomorrow) out of it, though.  She's probably in heaven about that.  I'm not looking forward to the make up work, but it has to be done, so yeah.

I suppose the good news is that Lily isn't the only one that has gone through two bouts of this bug.  According to her doctor, there have been several kids (and several moms worrying about their kids due to picking up the bug multiple times) with the bug more than once.   I am now under the firm impression that this years flu vaccine didn't work at all.  I think even a placebo would have worked better than this!

I'm just thankful that Jackson hasn't gotten sick.  He's as happy as can be, talking up a storm, and having fun practicing rolling over.   Mickie is supposed to pick up girl scout cookies today for me.  We had plans to go out this morning and do some running around, but plans have changed due to the rage and such.

Oh, and Lily hasn't thrown up since about 9 this morning, so I guess that means she's starting to feel better?  I'm off.  I am starving and I am gonna fix some lunch.

A Mission from Mr. Clean

Today: clean clean clean clean clean. Spic and Span, Mr. Clean and Formula 409 are all at my side ready to do battle against tough dirt and grime! (Do I sound like an advertisement or what??) Oh, and I'm also going to go and purchase some plastic tumblers (cups) because I'm tired of the nice cups (which we are down to three now) going out the door with Casey to whatever jobsite he may be going to.

So yeah and stuff... that's what I'm doing today. Not much fun, but it never is.
