This is why America is great.
If you haven't heard by now there is a vampyre (his spelling not mine) running for Governor of Minnesota. His name is Jonathon "The Impaler" Sharkey and his goal: Impale the bad guys. His party: The VWP Party, or Vampires Witches and Pagans Party.
My personal opinion? The VWP party comes off as a joke. Almost certainly something that LARPers would invent. Who in their right mind would join this party? Well, according to Mr. Sharkey, there are 300 members of the party. Could this guy be for real? Who would take this guy seriously? So, I logged on to witchvox and decided to see what people are saying about this guy.
Like me, a lot of people were offended by this guy trying to lump Pagans and Witches in with Vampyres. A lot of people thought this guy was a complete joke and while they were insulted that they were turning their religious beliefs into a joke, they also admired what he was trying to do. They admired his belief in wanting to bring down the bad guys... Although, impaling them on the capitol lawn didn't seem to be the most sanitary of ideas.
So the guy says he's a vampire, a satanic priest, blah blah blah... So what? Yeah, a few of his ideas aren't that well thought out. So what? Mr. Sharkey seems to have a strong belief in wanting to "protect the innocent." I really think that conflicts with his satanic creed, but you know what? Who cares? If he wants to do right by the citizens of Minnesota, let him try. I think it's awesome that he's running for governor and I don't think we could continue to call ourselves Americans if we didn't let him try. Remember what people said when Jesse Ventura ran for Governor of Minnesota, and he won. So, why not let Mr. Sharkey continue with his campaign? I really don't see him winning (people aren't quite ready for a Vampyre in office, although he'd be in good company seeing as how most politicians are blood-suckers), but at least he can say he tried... And isn't that what's important? I mean, hell, he can't do any worse than Arnold.
